USAID, partners to map Afghan election incidents21 August 2009
Washington: The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has teamed up with private aid groups and technology companies to develop an online map tracking election-related incidents in Afghanistan."This open data mapping project is one way for everyone to increase transparency as the elections roll out. It allows anyone anywhere to report an incident in the name of more meaningful democratic results for better governance," USAID said in a statement The map is located at news.geocommons.com/afghanistanelection09.USAID's partners in the project are Google, Fortius One's GeoCommons, Development Seed, Relief Star-Tides, Synergy Strike Force (SSF) and Alive in Afghanistan.Volunteers from SSF, which supports humanitarian relief and stabilization efforts in post-conflict environments, are on the ground in Jalalabad helping to collect, share and disseminate local data said USAID
